Can Your Plumbing Dad Handle the Job?
August 07, 2024
This Father’s Day, let’s take a moment to really appreciate all the different hats dad has worn over the years: chauffeur, therapist, friend, disciplinarian, nurse, advocate, among others. Dad has really been there for you throughout your life and nothing can replace all the time and effort he’s put into helping you and your family. What about household responsibilities?
We’re willing to bet that dad took on quite a few DIY jobs over the years; but, even the most expert of DIY dads can’t handle every job by themselves. Sometimes tasks in plumbing dad should probably leave alone. Read on below to see some examples on when the experts should be called in:
Don’t Let Dad Take on the Toilet Installation Himself
When you need a new toilet installation, don’t leave it to dad, leave it to the experts. So many problems can come with a DIY toilet installation job due to the number of tasks that accompany the job:
Possible new water lines, drains, lateral connections, intakes, pipe rearrangements, and other requirements.
When the preceding essentials are handled incorrectly, a slew of problems can happen. Let’s take a look at some of the common things that can go wrong:
- Flooding
- Water main can break
- Bad pipe placement
- Sewer damage
Just remember (and remind dad) that new toilet = call a professional to handle the job.
Fix Your Water Leak the Right Way
Don’t let dad use duct tape to repair any water leak, no matter how minor. Let’s look at some potential issues that can be caused when water leaks aren’t dealt with in the correct manner:
- Mold growth that’s hazardous to yours and everyone’s health can occur with any size leak.
- If you want to avoid a big water bill, deal with leaks promptly.
- Any size leak can cause property damage if it isn’t attended to and corrected properly.
Call in an experienced professional as quickly as you can to resolve any leaks you notice; don’t let dad DIY duct tape it!
DIY Drain Snaking?
When you handle drain snaking poorly or with no experience, a lot of things can go wrong. Share the following with dad if you catch him running to the hardware store to buy a snake:
- Usage of a snake with no experience can cause injury.
- Damaging of the porcelain of the toilet or sink can cause rapid deterioration of the fixture and ruin the cosmetic appeal.
- When pipes are damaged due to incorrect snake draining, it can lead to a failure of your entire plumbing system.
Tell dad to leave the snake draining to the experts next time there’s a plug. He’ll be glad that he did!
This Father’s Day, make sure dad knows how much you’ve learned from him over the years and how much you appreciate all the DIY jobs he’s done.
Just remind him that also there are certain jobs best left to the scope of experts. But don’t forget Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing DIY dads out there from Total Comfort Heating, Air & Plumbing!
